Drive to the conditions
Road conditions across the Northern Territory can change quickly and unexpectedly.
The Drive to the Conditions campaign reminds all road users to stay alert, slow down when required and make adjustments to suit the conditions.
By making safe choices behind the wheel, we can help to reduce crashes, prevent serious injuries and save lives on Territory roads.
The campaign highlights 4 key road safety risks commonly encountered across the NT:
- Pedestrians
- Bushfires
- Dusty roads
- Heavy vehicles
Pedestrians
Whether you're driving through town centres, communities or roadside stops, always be aware of pedestrians and be prepared to slow down.
Bushfires
Smoke can significantly reduce visibility and create dangerous driving conditions. Slow down, increase your following distance and drive to the conditions.
Dusty roads
Dust can obscure your vision in an instant. If visibility is reduced, slow down and leave plenty of space between vehicles.
Heavy vehicles
Heavy vehicles need more space to stop and manoeuvre. Be patient, avoid risky overtaking and share the road safely.
Remember
Before you travel:
- check your vehicle is roadworthy
- plan your journey and allow extra travel time
- monitor road and weather conditions
- adjust your speed to suit changing conditions
- stay focused and alert behind the wheel.
Drive to the conditions. Drive like our lives are worth living.
